The 8th Inter-School Competition of Study Projects on Hong Kong History and Culture was held today (September 25). Organised by the Hong Kong Museum of History and the Hong Kong Institute for Promotion of Chinese Culture, the competition aims to enhance students’ knowledge of Hong Kong’s history and culture and encourage them to learn actively outside school through thorough investigation.

A controversial movie about the future of Hong Kong has won the top prize at this year’s film awards. Ten Years is a series of vignettes that tap residents’ worst fears for the semi-autonomous territory’s future under Beijing’s tightening grip. The win was greeted with dismay by China, which called the award an “unprecedented and unacceptable” snub.

In order to win the HK$ 2 million prize sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, scientists should have outstanding scientific research achievements and influence in their field. It is also important that the research is of high quality, interdisciplinary and has a positive impact on the transformation of R&D results in Hong Kong. No more than five persons can win a prize per year. The Laureate (individual or group) will be awarded the prize money, a certificate and a trophy at an annual award ceremony. Representatives of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and central government agencies, and celebrities will be invited as officiating guests.

The IBP 2023 Best Article Prize on Global Hong Kong Studies was established to facilitate the exchange of ideas and promote discussion among scholars and students about different aspects of Hong Kong’s history, relationships with mainland China and other countries, as well as new theories and concepts in studying Hong Kong history, politics, society and culture. The prize is part of the Society’s efforts to promote Hong Kong studies and to foster greater mutual understanding and friendship between Hong Kong and other nations and regions around the world.

It is open to the principal authors of medical articles that have been published in a peer-reviewed journal in any specialty of medicine. The work must be relevant to clinical practice and research in Hong Kong and have significant implications for global health care. It should not have been submitted for any other academic prize, be a review or letter to the editor, or focus on Hong Kong/Asia in general. The Society reserves the right to refuse any entry that does not satisfy the requirements. The decision of the Board is final. If a prize-winning paper is found to have been falsified or improperly conducted, the Society may withdraw the prize money and the award certificate.
