Swimming pools are the best way to cool off when the mercury rises, and Hong Kong is home to plenty of great public pools for kids and adults alike. Many of these pools have facilities that kids love, such as water slides and fountains, so they make a great place for the whole family to have a splashing good time this summer. Best of all, they’re cheap as chips! During the week, admission costs HK$17, and weekends and public holidays it’s HK$19. You can also save money with a monthly pool ticket, available for students and people above 60.
There are 44 public swimming pools in Hong Kong, including 9 on Hong Kong Island, 13 in Kowloon and 22 in the New Territories. These are managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). The most popular is the Tai Wan Shan Swimming Pool, which has a stunning view of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island from its vantage point and offers a range of swimming facilities, such as three teaching pools, a main pool and two diving pools.
Another great option for families is the Fanling Swimming Pool, which offers a much quieter experience than some of the more busy pools in the city. Located in a residential area, this pool has a main pool and a diving pool. It also has a teaching pool and is a great place for beginner swimmers to build up confidence before venturing into the main pool. If you’re feeling famished after your time in the pool, head over to nearby Wing Lai Yuen for some delicious sichuan noodles!
The YMCA Bridges Street Centre is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a centrally-located swimming pool. It’s a little bit old, but it has been well maintained and is a great spot to get a swim in without the crowds of more popular pools. It’s also affordable in comparison to other pools in the area, and it even hosts swimming lessons!
Kids are bound to enjoy Hammer Hill Road’s swimming pool, which has a pirate ship and water cannons in its indoor pool! The outdoor area has a number of slides and fountains, too. It’s a hit with kids of all ages, but it’s particularly great for the younger ones.
If you’re looking for a premium above ground swimming pool that’s easy to set up and is perfect for your backyard, this is the one to go for. It’s made from triple-layer reinforced materials and can be assembled in 30 minutes by two people. It needs to be placed on a level, cleared and compacted surface, but it’s still a lot easier to assemble than most other pools of similar sizes. Best of all, it can be easily moved and stored when not in use.
